ADVERTISMENT

PULSE Clinic, Asia’s leading sexual healthcare provider, believes that a healthy society recognises and supports an individual’s potential. To provide a platform for new and emerging contemporary artists in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, the PULSE clinic has launched the inaugural PULSE Awards: The Art of Life, a competition for artists to submit their works based on the theme Sexual Health Matters.

Finalists will have their works exhibited at the new PULSE Gallery spaces in Bangkok. The selected works will be auctioned for the charity Foundation for Life. Fifty percent of the auction proceeds will be donated to the charity to support testing and treatment of populations without access to financing. The remaining 50% of the money raised will go to the artists. Additionally, two winners in their respective categories will win prize money.

The PULSE Awards highlights that a healthy society is not measured solely by its GDP, but also in the strides it makes in the artistic, relationship/interpersonal, social services and the sciences. PULSE Clinic’s mission is to provide excellent standards of sexual health care and education, and to remove the stigma, judgment, and privilege that continues to negatively impact access to information, testing, and treatment. PULSE Awards aims to raise awareness on the importance of sexual health, remove social stigma towards the LGBTQ+ community, and normalise society’s attitudes towards sex and sexuality.

The Theme for PULSE Awards 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely restricted social interactions and cross-border travel. Despite this, our human desires, experiences, and life have gone on. Even when our bodies are locked down inside the house, human desires go beyond the walls that surround us.

Our experience of sex manifests in ways both old and new and across multiple dimensions and layers: physical, emotional, spiritual, gender, cultural, excitement, and intimacy, to name just a few. None of these elements are necessarily constant. “Sex” means different things at different points in our lives, or from one day to the next.

Sex, in its many interpretations, is part of our everyday lives. But we often talk about it in very simplistic ways. Whether it is contraception or contracting and spreading STIs, and while those things are important, they do not tell the whole story of what it takes to be a truly sexually healthy individual. Sexual health is fundamental to the overall health and well-being of individuals, couples, and families. Physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual well-being in relation to sexuality should be treated positively and respectfully.

Providing an opportunity for artists to showcase their talents through expressions of their thoughts and understanding of sexual health, PULSE Awards is open for residents (local and foreign) from the following countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Thailand, and Vietnam.
